Prior to joining Han Kun Law Offices, Mr. Zhao worked in the Hong Kong office of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan LLP.
Since beginning his legal career, Mr. Zhao has been assisting Chinese and foreign clients in resolving disputes arising from their "going global" and cross-border transactions. His practice spans a broad range of high-tech and manufacturing sectors, including innovative pharmaceutical investment, research and development (R&D), manufacturing, and commercialization; medical devices; photovoltaic equipment manufacturing and supply; new energy materials production and supply; telecommunications equipment design and manufacturing; specialty industrial gas production and supply; chemical equipment procurement; industrial automation equipment design and manufacturing; and financial technology (fintech).
In arbitration, Mr. Zhao has represented clients in disputes under the rules of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), Shanghai International Arbitration Center (SHIAC), Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA), Beijing Arbitration Commission (BAC), Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), American Arbitration Association (AAA), Shanghai Arbitration Commission (SAC), United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), and the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). He has also provided advice on issues related to the annulment or enforcement of arbitral awards.
In litigation, Mr. Zhao has represented both domestic clients and foreign clients — including those from Germany, the United States, France, Italy, and other jurisdictions — in securing favorable judgments or negotiated settlements before courts in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Shandong, and other regions. He has also provided PRC law opinions in support of legal proceedings in the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
In recent years, Mr. Zhao has expanded his practice to encompass cross-border asset tracing and recovery, including matters involving digital assets and cryptocurrency.
