Recently, the Chinese Embassy in Singapore, in collaboration with Han Kun Law Offices, jointly compiled and released the "Common Knowledge of Singapore Law" handbook, providing authoritative and practical legal information guidance for Chinese citizens and tourists in Singapore.
Though small in size, Singapore is renowned for its excellent environment and well-maintained social order, largely due to its strict legal system and numerous regulations. Singapore is both a "fine city" and a "city of fines." Many seemingly minor actions, such as jaywalking, smoking in public places, spitting, operating drones illegally, or even feeding pigeons outdoors, may violate laws and regulations, resulting in hefty fines or even imprisonment. Particularly in areas such as e-cigarette control, bribery of public officials, and racial and religious harmony, Singaporean laws are known for their strict and impartial enforcement.
To help Chinese citizens better understand and comply with local laws, and avoid severe consequences due to inadvertent negligence, the Embassy partnered with Han Kun Law Offices to systematically compile and summarize relevant legal regulations, ranging from immigration and daily life to social interactions, into the "Common Knowledge of Singapore Law" handbook. The handbook has been published on the Embassy's official media channels. It not only covers hot topics such as tobacco control, the "chewing gum ban," anti-bribery measures, and public order maintenance but also provides detailed guidance on areas of public concern, such as the use of electronic devices, wildlife protection, and environmental hygiene.
Ms. Lan Yu, partner at Han Kun's Singapore office, stated, "The compilation of the 'Common Knowledge of Singapore Law' handbook reflects both the Embassy's mission of "diplomacy for the people" and Han Kun's social responsibility to serve Singapore and Sino-Singapore cooperation. Han Kun hopes to leverage its professional expertise to provide safer legal protection for Chinese citizens working, studying, and living in Singapore."
The Chinese Embassy in Singapore reminds all Chinese citizens and tourists in Singapore: abiding by the law is a prerequisite for safeguarding one's legitimate rights and interests.
